Besides having our materials
reviewed by some of the top beekeeping researchers in the country, it's also
revised every year to reflect the new research and the new challenges.
We've been recognized by the governor's office for
multiple years. And we're this state's largest organization for
contributions into honeybee research.
And we don't teach beekeeping lore. For example, most
books and classes teach the annual preventive application of antibiotics on
beehives. That's bad science, bad medicine, and... well... just bad.
And many teachers recommend the murder of queen cells
and queens in favor of purchased queens on a routine basis. You'd be right
if you thought this might narrow the gene pool and potentially weaken the
health of bees overall. While there may be reasons to replace a queen,
"because it's September" is just plain... silly.
And many beekeeping meetings perpetuate the blame of the
honeybee crisis on causes promoted by environmentalists, when in fact the
biggest killer of honey bees is also the biggest killers of humans on our
planet... |
